The Wentworth Economic Development Corporation, Inc. (WEDCO) is a non-profit 501(c) (3) founded in 1993. Our mission is to promote and support businesses and the creation of employment opportunities by providing development assistance and financing. Our service area includes northern Strafford and southern Carroll County which encompasses the Towns of Brookfield, Effingham, Farmington, Middleton, Milton, Moultonborough, New Durham, Sandwich, Tuftonboro, Wakefield and Wolfeboro.
Over the years, some WEDCO activities include the development of an industrial park in Farmington, establishment of a childcare facility in Milton, and the creation of the first collaborative e-commerce website in the State called NHmade.com. We currently serve as fiscal agent for Pathways of Wolfeboro and the Festival of Trees, and are involved with the Town of Wolfeboro’s Economic Development Committee. However, our primary focus is lending. In the past several years, WEDCO has lent over $4 million and leveraged almost $30 million. This lending activity alone have created and retained over 420 jobs.
2013 will be another busy year and we look forward the challenges and opportunities it presents. We will continue to bring business counseling services to the region through our partnerships with Lakes Region SCORE and the NH Small Business Development Center, as well as provide workshops and seminars. However, we will continue to be a resource for business financing, leveraging both traditional financing and equity.
Unlike most non-profit organizations we do not engage in ongoing fundraising activities, collect membership dues, etc., nor do we depend on financial support from Towns or County Governments. Our revenue comes from fees for service, interest income, grants, contributions and tax credit awards.
